Survival Solutions Innovative Gear is proud to introduce yet another cutting edge design; our very own Leather Sheath for the Cold Steel Pipe Hawk. Made from premium grade American Leather, this sheath is hand-crafted for years of faithful service.
The leather itself is 8/9 oz., which in practical terms is from 8/64" to 9/64" thick. Ideal for belts, holsters and saddle bags. Cut from top quality USA sides tanned for leather-crafters who demand the finest carving cowhide money can buy.
The thread we use is size 415. Size 415 Nylon is an ultra heavyweight thread typically used for sewing heavy-duty leather, shoe repair, canvass, and auto interiors. Stitching is done with a size 26 or 28 needle and is very visible and often becomes a focal point.
Before sewing by hand, we use a low V.O.C., polymer, glue for leather to provide added strength to the stitching with a strong, flexible bond. No, we didn't have to, but that's what makes the difference between good gear and GREAT gear.
Using top quality materials and quality craftsmanship, the bottom line will always add up to long life and superior performance. But that doesn't mean you're off the hook when it comes to doing your part......you are responsible to weatherproof the leather.
Some folks prefer mink oil, bear grease or neats-foot oil, but our preference is Snow Seal. That exact reason is why we do not weatherproof these sheaths. There are differing schools of thought and preferences to the point that we decided to leave that up to you. We simply provide the gear for such schools to argue over.
Here's what George W. Jasper (author of the field survival manual 6 WAYS IN & 12 WAYS OUT, former U.S. Army Ranger and the commander and chief instructor with the United States Rescue and Special Operations Group as well as the designer of The Swack Shack) had to say about our Sheath; "The sheath is half of what makes this tool what it is. Thick. I am guessing 8oz leather." (This from a man who has put more time in the field and used more gear than you and any 10 of your buddies combined.)
Lots of folks have tomahawks, but very few can carry them securely, readily accessible and comfortably, all at the same time. Now they can, with a sheath made for folks who intend to use their Hawks in the field. Proudly MADE IN THE U.S.A.
